Sports News

I was watching the Tamil News Channel.

As usual they were talking first about the politics. Then came the national affairs. Then the state affairs. The most expected comes the last. I keenly waited for the Sports news.

Now they flashed sports news & gave an ad break. They always test our tempers. After the break, the sports news resumed.

Sports News: They started announcing the marriage news of the top cricketer of the Indian team.

Some how the news editor felt that the Cricketers marriage was a sports news 🙂

Year 1998

My friend was awake very late in the night revising for his forth coming 12th exams. The group study’ plan was perfectly  happening. The group was chatting about their plans after 12th grade, their class love stories & about the weekend plans.

Suddenly my friend heard sound of the saw from the next house, which was not occupied for some time. He felt very cold & the chilliness gripped his entire body. Slowly others in the group started hearing the sound & felt the same.

All of them thought it was thief. Lacking the courage to take further action they called the cops. When the cops arrived, my friend’s adrenaline got pumped up and they jumped across the barbed wired fence.

The sound was coming from the back side of the house. The cops & my friends slowly moved to the backside of the house. The cat which scratched the woods now winked at them.

Port of Entry

Terminal 3: Chicago Airport: 2007 January 29

The port of entry welcomed me very well. The Immigration officer asked me some questions and stamped my passport with the validity dates. I had to call my friend in Cincinnati, to pick me up from Airport. I hardly had any coins, so I picked up a packet of chips from the nearest store & got back the change for 20$ bill.

After spending half-dollar for the call, I couldn’t tally the remaining coins. I took my boarding pass from Delta Airlines. I waited in the lobby with the coins in my hand and trying to tally it.

A girl of 21 years old sat near me & questioned what I am doing with the coins. I replied, I am doing a math to tally out a 20$ bill. She took the coins and helped me tally it. My ignorance of the value of 1 dime was the cause of my confusion. I told her that, since 1 dime is smaller in size than 1 cent, I was thinking it could be half cent.  She grinned & replied there is no half cent in US now.

She showed her ID card which read US military. She understood the questions in my face and answered that she worked for US military & now worked in Germany on deputation.

I introduced myself of my software assignments in Ohio.  She quickly asked which city & I replied Cincinnati. She replied that she was also traveling to Cincinnati in the same flight.

After the take off, we were talking for about 30 minutes. She was telling about her father’s deputation in Iraq & her brother’s work in white house. She tore a paper from the airline magazine & wrote her mobile, email address.  After arriving Cincinnati, she helped me call my friend with her phone. We bid adieu.  We had contacts in mail for few months & later we lost touch.

October 2009

While social networking, I thought of adding her in the list. I searched for her, & got shocked to learn that she got murdered year and half back. The saddest part was, she was 7 month pregnant while murdered.

The murderer was later identified and sentenced to death. I was unable to digest these sequence of events, why she came in my life and went away.

January 2010,

I washed my backpack and while drying it found a small piece of paper in it. The paper where she wrote her contact details still lived inside.

Give & Get

I was riding my new bike Honda – Unicorn.   My brother was pillion rider and I was riding it in the congested streets of Tnagar – Chennai.

The Smell of tobacco suddenly swirled my nose.  The water washed vehicle doom was now fully soused by tobacco remains. The mind easily identified the sinner in a fraction. It was the prior bike rider, who spit it.

There was no point in chasing him. To vent my anger I used unparliamentary language. He heard the word and abruptly stopped his bike and questioned me why I used such language. I wanted to justify my act, but hearing that he accidentally spit, I repented for the word..

I left the place answering him that I used the word accidentally too.

My normal riding rhythm got altered by the incident. I accelerated much and at a pedestrian crossing, I wanted to pass the people who were waiting to cross the road.

I got forced to use my disc brakes, to bring the vehicle stationary. The people are already half way past in the road.

I heard the exact word which I used some time before, coming to me from a eunuch. Also the eunuch yelled at me “Go slow”.

I went slowly in mind.

Song Dedication

Year 2000

I was listening to Rainbow FM 107.1. The show has two parts. First hour is full of dial-ins where people can dedicate songs to their loved ones & the second half is full of the stations scheduled songs.

I was persistently calling the station and today I got very luck to connect to the FM Show host.

The host asked many standard questions. Since it was the first time for me on AIR, I was very nervous in answering. After the question session, he asked me about my dedications.

The dedication part was the much awaited one from my end; I just recited what was in my memory.  I dedicated a love song to one of my friend.  I am not sure whether I had a crush, but I dedicated the song only to her. The age of mine did not allow me to think what is love, crush or infatuation. I enjoyed the song with her in mind.

The Sunday evening, I joined all my friends for our usual cricket matches. After the match we normally have a chatting session. One guy disclosed my dedication to all the others & everyone were teasing me for my act.

I felt embarrassed. Till now, people tease me remembering the incident

We both are now happily married. She married her husband. I married my wife.
